A haunting picture during the lockdown times in the country’s ‘number 1 state, a woman had to walk for 30 kilometres to get a free meal kit provided by the government for the weaker sections. The incident happened in the Kannur district of Kerala.
Aisha and her sixteen-year-old son are living in a rented house near Pathanakkunnu. They have the ration card at the ration shop in Vayannur near Kolayat. Knowing that the kit is being distributed, Ayesha along with her son walked almost 30 kilometres to collect.
While walking back, the duos sat for a while due to fatigue when police patrolling vehicle found them who took them back home. Ayesha’s husband is undergoing treatment for heart disease.
After getting wind of the incident, Lok Tantrik Janata Dal activists have reached all necessary grocery items to Ayisha’s house. The PDS has now made arrangements to purchase foodgrains from the nearest ration shop.
