If we look back to our glorious past and found one personality who was widely and universally accepted by everyone, it is no other than the greatest son of Bharatmata , Swami Vivekananda. “In the recent centuries, the greatest person born in India is Swami Vivekananda”, said Babasaheb Ambedkar. The father of India, Mahatma Gandhi once said that, “after studying Swami Vivekananda, my love for India became a thousand fold”.
On January 12, 1863, the real “Karmayogi”, Swami Vivekananda was born which is celebrated every year as National Youth Day, as Swamiji widely accepted among youth. Swami Vivekananda, who just lived for 39 years, is a true inspiration for youth and world would definitely commemorate and learn from his teachings till time immemorial. For youth Swami Vivekananda once said that, “My faith is in younger generation, the modern generation. Out of them will come out my workers, they will work out the whole problems ,like lions”. What tremendous strength Swamiji had that by mere reading his lectures, Indian freedom fighter, Subash Chandra Bose became highly influenced and his life became revolutionized. Subash Chandra Bose once said that, “If Swamiji had born alive today, he would have been my Guru, I would accept him as master”.
Swami Vivekananda’s whole life was for and only for his mother India, that’s the reason, Ravindranath Tagore said, “If you want to know India then, study Swami Vivekananda, in him everything is positive nothing is negative”. We can’t just imagine his love for the motherland that makes him to cover the length and breadth of the land twice”.
On September 11th, 1893, when Swamiji bewildered the world with just five words fell from his fiery tongue with immense love from heart, he became so popular and famous personality. Newspapers and magazines were full of Vivekananda. “What fool we were to send missionaries in such a learned nation “, stated The New York Herald. But one night just after that, Swamiji was crying in the hotel room and saying that, “O mother, who am I to take care for this name and fame when the masses in India are sunken”. The pitiable situation and agony of his countrymen was making him restless and sleepless.
Swami Vivekananda, after covering the length and breadth of the land twice, reached Kanyakumari in December 1892. He bowed down to Devi Kanyakumari and went to the rock near the shore. Swamiji meditated on the rock for 3 days and night and got the mission of his life. After hundred year of his birth anniversary, when a idea conceptualized to build a memorial on that rock. The whole country was united and contributed for memorial. All the people, regardless of ideology contributed in that work, which signifies that Swamiji is acceptable to all and can’t be captured in any ideological boundary.
To those who want to take on the role of a leader, Swami Vivekananda said, “You must be a servant of servants and then you will be a true master”. He wrote to Maharaja of Mysore that, “They alone live who live for others, rest are dead than alive”.
The progress of the nation strengthened with it’s youth and education plays a vital role here. “Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riots there, undigested all your life. We must have man-making and character making education” says Swamiji.
You must have heard, मातृ देवो भव: , पितृ देवो भव:, “look upon your mother and father as God, but it is only Swami Vivekananda who said – दरिद्र देवो भव : मूर्ख देवो भव : – poor, ignorant be your God.
It was Swami Vivekananda who influenced not only Indian leader but also foreign eminent persons. Nikola Tesla, a great scientist, who had hardly have a time to come out of his laboratory, met Swami Vivekananda and greatly influenced by him. John Rockfeller, one of richest person and industrialist, at that time was desperate to met Swamji and after meeting, he became philanthropist with his first ever donation.
“The world is a great gymnasium where we come to make ourselves strong”, said Swami Vivekananda. On the National Youth Day, we must arise, awake and practically implement Swamiji’s teachings in our daily life. An ordinary child Naren, by his Sadhna and work became a extraordinary man but how strong we make ourselves is totally depend on ourselves.
