Tamil cinema’s beloved actor Vivek passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances. The actor, who was a self-proclaimed fan of universal star Kamal Hassan, had expressed his desire to act alongside the legendary actor. Director Shankar fulfilled this wish by offering Vivek a role in the sequel of the 1996 blockbuster ‘Indian’.
However, Vivek’s untimely death left the makers in a quandary, as the actor had not completed his portions in the movie. There were speculations about Shankar replacing Vivek’s role with another actor from Mollywood. However, the director has now confirmed that Vivek’s role will be retained in the film, as a tribute to the late actor.
The dubbing process for Vivek’s role remains a concern, but the makers are determined to keep the character that the actor held dear. Kajal Agarwal plays the female lead in the movie. ‘Indian’, released in 1996, was a critical and commercial success, and earned Kamal Hassan his third National Award for Best Actor.
Vivek’s death has left a void in the Tamil film industry, with many of his colleagues and fans paying tribute to the actor’s contributions to cinema. A R Rahman, the Grammy-winning composer, referred to Vivek as the “selfless jewel of India”, while Kamal Hassan himself mourned the loss of a talented actor and a dear friend.
