AR Rahman, the celebrated composer, recently had his concert in Pune cut short by the police for overshooting the 10 pm deadline. However, the incident did not dampen the spirits of Rahman and his band, who continued to perform for the audience. Rahman took to Twitter to express his gratitude towards the audience, saying that he had a “Rockstar moment” and was overwhelmed by the love of the concertgoers. He also shared a video from the live concert and thanked Pune for a memorable evening.
Following the incident, a hashtag ‘#DisRespectOfARRahman’ started trending on Twitter, with fans expressing their support for the composer. Some even criticized the Maharashtra government and Pune City Police for stopping the concert midway. In a viral video, a police officer was seen asking Rahman and others to stop the music show as it was already past 10 o’clock.
While Rahman did not directly address the incident in his tweet, an aide close to him said that the police could have talked to the organisers instead of pointing fingers at Rahman, who is a Padma Bhushan awardee and known worldwide for his music. The event organiser also expressed disappointment over the way the show was stopped, saying it was disrespectful to Rahman and could have been handled in a more decent manner.
