The Popular Front and a section of Left-Liberal media have launched a massive media campaign to influence the judiciary and thereby help dubious journalist Siddique Kappan, accused of terror activities, get bail. Kappan was arrested along with two dreaded Popular Front activists on their way to Hathras in a bid to foment caste riots. The UP Police has submitted in the court that the Islamist outfit had planned to engineer communal strife in the wake of the death of a Dalit girl in Hathras, UP. The Police also told the court that Kappan was deeply involved in the planning and providing logistical support to violent agitations and communal violence.
Stories are being planted in Times of India, The Indian Express, The Telegraph and other Left media outlets, highlighting the alleged “innocence” of Kappan. Earlier, Newslaundry, an Islamist propaganda portal, ran a series of fabricated stories highlighting Kappan’s version. The Newslaundry journalist who did this ‘paid’ job was given an award and cash prize by a pro-Pakistan Islamist outfit Indian American Muslim Council. Newslaundry has been the mouthpiece of Popular Front for long and a Malayalam journalist Shri VV Binu has approached the Home Ministry to probe the sources of finance of this portal. The Newslaundry has been in the forefront of the misinformation campaign launched by a section of pro-Islamist journalist. Indus Scrolls had earlier reported how Akanksha Kumar of Newslaundry distorted our MD Sreedathan’s written statement sent to her through WhatsApp to suit the Islamist agenda. After her report, Sreedathan had received death-threats from Islamists. Bihar Police has been providing security to the journalist, Binu, on the basis of threat perception. Binu and Sreedathan are being targeted because they had cooperated with the UP Police investigation.
Kappan’s Links with Popular Front
Kappan, who was putting up in the office of Popular Front-promoted NGO, was travelling with the Campus Front activists who were on the police radar for their involvement in the anti-CAA violence. On the basis of Kappan’s statement, the police arrested PFI terrorists Anshad Badaruddin, Firoz Khan and Rouf Sharif who are languishing in Lucknow jail. Kappan’s statement has helped the police arrest a fugitive terrorist who was involved in several bomb blasts. On the basis of information provided by Kappan, Tamil Nadu’s Q Branch team conducted several raids, including in Kerala, and busted terror modules in South India.
Linking Kappan to Popular Front, UP Police has submitted several documents which show that the outfit had praised the ‘services of Kappan’. According to a senior UP Police officer, Kappan’s role was to push Popular Front agenda in the media by establishing rapport with senior journalists.
Enforcement Directorate which probed the fund sources of Popular Front had found that Rouf Sharif who funded anti-CAA and Hathras protests for the Islamist outfit had sourced funds from West Asia and China through hawala route. Sharif had funded Kappan also.
