A slew of murder and love jihad cases in the last few months reveal a pattern. In all the cases reported from various parts of the country, the girl victims are either below 18 years or just crossed 18, while men are in their late 20s or even married. In several cases, the boys introduced themselves as Hindus initially to girls before entrapping them in romantic relationships.
Another aspect that comes to the fore is that in all the murder attempts or murders, the culprit committed the crime supported by one or more persons from his community. In some cases, Muslim police officers and medical doctors have taken positions in order to help the accused.
In Delhi’s Sangam Vihar case, the victim Naina Mishra, 16, was shot at by 20-plus-year-old Amanat Ali. He started following her while she was studying in the 9th standard, a person known to the family said. Ali was insisting on having physical relationship, which she did not accept, said an investigation officer. Despite her disapproval, Ali used to chase her. When she told him not to talk to her. Angry at the rejection, he hatched a plan to kill her along with other two Muslim youths. All the three has been arrested. It is not clear whether there will be more arrests. Interestingly, no English newspaper, including Times of India or The Hindu, has named the accused.
In Ankita Singh’s case is also somewhat similar. A resident of Dumka in Jharkhand, Ankita was being chased by Shahrukh Hussain despite her and her family’s admonitions. Ankita was set on fire on August 22 and she died on August 28 after several days of suffering. The investigation officer Noor Mustafa allegedly advanced Ankita’s age so that the culprit could not be booked under POCSO. Mustafa had earlier also betrayed his anti-Hindu attitude in another case, alleged Babulal Marandi, the BJP leader.
Muhammad Yameen Ahmed, the taxi driver, who had trapped 18-year-old college student Anjali Arya in love jihad had raped her before slitting her throat, the police investigating the crime said. Anjali, a resident of Khadakpur village in Nainital, had gone missing on August 3. Her decomposed body was recovered on August 28 from the forest area near the Forest Department post on the Shakti Farm Road. Her body was eaten by dogs and other insects leaving behind only the skeleton. She was insisting on marriage which Yameen did not like.
Here are some recent cases which show a pattern.
