Because of financial mismanagement, while Kerala is heading towards a possible economic collapse, various departments in the state are facing restrictions even in managing day-to-day affairs.
According to reports, the excise officials in Kozhikode district struggle to nab culprits selling bootleg liquor, drugs and other banned substances due to financial constraints.
The excise department, which occasionally conducts raids ahead of the Onam festive season, cut down its activities due to shortage of funds to buy diesel for vehicles.
The excise department is depending on petrol pumps for fuel. However, some pumps in the city refuse diesel due to increase in dues. However, excise deputy commissioner Abu Abraham said that the current crisis will be resolved soon.
