Chinta Jerome, the Chairperson of the Youth Commission, faced backlash on social media after posting a congratulatory message for music director Keeravani and lyricist Chandra Bose for winning an Oscar for their song in the movie RRR. Trolls on social media quickly pointed out grammatical errors in the post, which resulted in it being taken down from Facebook soon after.
Jerome, who holds a doctorate in English literature, had written in her Facebook post, “Chandra Bose, a song writer who brought international fame to RRR cinema, awarding Oscar Award to MM Keeravani who provided music is an international recognition for the Telugu cinema literature sector. Respect.”
Mistakes in the post, including the redundancy of “international” and the use of “Oscar Award” instead of “Oscar,” were quickly seized upon by trolls on social media. They ridiculed Jerome for her grammatical errors, questioning her qualifications as an English literature doctorate holder.
Jerome’s Facebook post had initially been intended as a tribute to the winners and a celebration of their achievement, but the backlash quickly turned it into a controversy over her own competence.
