The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against 59 people, including the leaders of the banned organization Popular Front of India (PFI), for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy against people of other religions. The NIA claims that the PFI was attempting to create religious rivalry in India. The chargesheet was filed in a case related to the inspection of Popular Front centers across the country last September, which resulted in two cases being registered against the organization’s leaders.
According to the chargesheet, Karamana Ashraf Moulavi has been named as the first accused. The NIA alleges that the accused had a goal of establishing Islamic rule in India by 2047 and that money had been collected for this purpose. The PFI also reportedly attempted to conduct weapons training among Muslim youth.
The chargesheet comes after the NIA took action against the top leaders of the Popular Front in a case filed in Delhi. The charge sheet has been submitted for the case filed in Kochi.
The Popular Front of India was banned by the government in 2019, with authorities accusing the organization of involvement in anti-national and terrorist activities. The organization has denied the charges and claimed that it is a socio-cultural organization working for the welfare of minorities and marginalized communities.
