New Delhi: In a vibrant ceremony held at India International Centre, Vice-President Venkaiyah Naidu virtually released Mizoram Governor’s P.S. Sreedharan Pillai’s latest collection of poems titled ‘Oh Mizoram’. The anthology dedicated to the people of Mizoram was launched in the presence of Zoramthanga, CM of Mizoram and other dignitaries.
Releasing the book, the Vice President, praised the region for its pristine natural beauty and said that Mizoram’s colourful festivals, folk music, and energetic dance make Mizo society truly unique. Often called as “Songbird of the East”, the Mizos are blessed with a natural talent for music, he said.
The Vice-President said the whole of North-East region presents a mosaic of diverse Indian culture with its more than 220 ethnic groups and an equal number of dialects. Referring to a poem on ‘Diabetes’, Shri Naidu observed that a large number of Indians are in the grip of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy food habits.
In this regard, the North-Eastern people, who live harmoniously with nature and eat a natural diet, can show the way to the rest of India in adopting a healthy lifestyle. He expressed happiness that the north-east is showing the way in organic farming and cited the example of Sikkim, which has become India’s first organic state in 2016.
In the ceremony presided over by Dr Jitendra Singh, MoS (PMO), Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga presented the keynote address. Secretary for coordination and security, Cabinet V.P. Joy IAS and Prafulla Ketkar, Editor, Organiser addressed the gathering. CEO of Indus Scrolls Press G Sreedathan welcomed the guests.
‘Oh Mizoram’, the latest book of poetry, like P.S. Sreedharan Pillai’s other works on different subjects in the society, features various themes including contemporary affairs. The book was published by Delhi based Indus Scrolls Press. A video featuring P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and his works by Greek writer and director of Writers Capital Foundation, Italy Irene Doura-Kavadia was presented during the ceremony.
Pillai started his political career through the Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), during his college days. He was elected as BJP State President from 2003 to 2006 and also served as the BJP Prabhari of Lakshadweep UT in 2004. In 2018, he was again appointed as the state President. He was appointed governor of Mizoram on 25 October 2019.
Dr. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai has authored over a hundred books on various topics.
