The Nightly Flight: Poem by Johanna Devadayavu

The sky is bright
Tranquil tonight
Forgetting fright
I take flight
Into the night
Where shedding light
Stars without blight
Show the way alright

Stars are singing
In sweet song ringing
In joyful dance swinging
I sway along winging
By mystic stringing
To a light beam clinging
Hope within springing
To hear the story of the beginning

I listen to their song
Awestruck I sing along
Though the way is long
With persuasion strong
Within the glistening throng
Nothing can go wrong
Breathless I prolong –
‘Is it here that I belong?’

Driven by the fire
Of burning desire
To rise higher
Beyond the mire
I forget my attire
Isn’t yet entire
Thus in stupor dire
I silently enquire:

‘What is the meaning
Of my fragile being -‘
Like a hammer peening
‘How long’ I’m screaming
‘Will I be dreaming
In this life demeaning
My true splendor beaming?’
On the Beloved leaning
I trust in His intervening
