The protest march organised by the Kerala Students Union (KSU) to the Cliff House on Wednesday demanding the resignation of the Minister for Education, V Sivankutty, turned violent after the protesters clashed with police.
KSU organised the march after the Supreme Court dismissed a plea by the Kerala government for withdrawal of a criminal case against some LDF MLAs including Sivankutty in connection with a ruckus in the state assembly in 2015.
KSU urged the chief minister to dismiss Sivankutty from the cabinet. Police prevented the protestors using barricades at Devaswom Board Junction. However, the protesters tried to break barricades and it led to a clash with the police. Later, the protestors sat beside the road that leads to Cliff House and raised slogans demanding Sivankutty’s resignation. A scuffle broke out when police tried to arrest the activists.
