With India not supporting Ukraine in the UN, it seems like the country is against India and the citizens in the country indicates reports. A recent incident shows that Indian students were not allowed to enter trains to reach the border as a part of the evacuation process. The Ukrainian citizens were calling Indians ‘black people’ and were not allowed to step into the train.
Meanwhile, the Russian president Putin on Thursday said that more than 3,000 Indian students were kept hostage in Ukraine. He added that Chinese students are also being kept as hostages. “Ukraine is trying to delay the evacuation of foreigners due to which they are threatened,” Putin said.
Even as the Indian government ramped up its evacuation efforts and the foreign secretary called the Ukrainian ambassador to emphasise India’s concern for citizens trapped in the war zone, several medical students alleged that they were harassed at checkpoints on Ukraine’s border with Poland.
The students said they were kept in an almost hostage-like situation in the freezing cold and denied food, water, shelter or safe passage. They claimed that the border guards were abusing them because of India abstaining on a UNSC resolution against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
