I learned from my mother
to have a generous heart
to love and give with the heart.
I learned not to retain possessions,
but to treasure the feelings,
to dream without fear
and not to hold a grudge.
I learned to sing and laugh
and to love nature.
And I also learned
to say goodbye with a smile
and an open heart.
I saw her go, dear mother
and my heart stayed
beside her, throbbing.
And there I stayed
remembering her laughter
and her heavenly eyes.
I will never forget the sound of her voice
nor will I get used to not seeing her.
I will wait for every sunrise
and let the night come hopelessly.
But she will always be in my garden
in that, her white jasmine, and her red geranium.
The winter of my soul will go
and spring will return
with her smile and her eyes of heaven,
like a lighthouse that will guide my steps
to good port.
RECUERDOS DE MI MADRE
De mi madre aprendí
a tener un corazón generoso
a amar y dar con el corazón.
Aprendí a no retener las posesiones,
sino a atesorar los sentimientos,
a soñar sin temores
y a no guardar rencor.
Aprendí a cantar y reír,
y a amar la naturaleza.
Y también aprendí
a despedirme con una sonrisa
y el corazón abierto.
La vi partir, madre mía
y mi corazón se quedó
a su lado, palpitando.
Y allí me quedé,
a buen puerto
