Kerala unit of the CPM has come out with startling revelation that Islamic groups
and Maoist groups are working hand-in-glove. P. Mohanan Master, Kozhikkode
district secretary of CPM told that Islamic fundamentalists are providing water and manure for Maoists.
Mohanan’s statement has pushed his party to hot soup. Party General Secretary
Sitaram Yechury has reportedly denounced it. But, M.B. Rajesh, CPM leader and former Lok Sabha member, told during a channel debate that what Mohanan has said has been the CPM policy since long.
Meanwhile, BJP has welcomed the CPM leader’s statement as the party has been highlighting it during the last nearly two decades. BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan said that all FIRs registered in connection with the terrorist actions should be studied and proper investigation should be launched.
As expected CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran has flayed CPM leader’s statement. He says, he does not respect the communists who believe what police says. SDPI, Islamic fundamentalist group, has opposed CPM leader too !.
The latest development should be viewed in the wake of the UAPA arrest of two CPM workers in connection with their Maoist links. Whoever opposes Mohanan Master had vehemently opposed UAPA charges against the young CPM men. Sitaram Yechury, Prakash Karat, Kanam Rajendran, Muslim League and Congress joined hands against LDF regime’s UAPA action. This time Congress has not come out with any opinion so far. Muslim League has opposed the phrase “Islamic fundamentalism” said by Mohanan. It believes that the terminology is a blanket criticism of the whole community.
BJP leader P. Sivashankar wonders why did CPM hide the opinion, Mohanan aired today until now. Because M.B. Rajesh says, Mohanan’s speech should not be considered as a surprise.
In short CPM is in deep trouble. CPI plays the role of the Opposition within the Left Front. But, CM Pinarayi Vijayan wants to regain the lost Hindu vote bank which did upset the apple cart of his great ambitions during the Lok Sabha polls.
