Amid the growing concern of COVID spread in Kerala, health minister Veena George informed that the next three weeks will be crucial for the state in preventing the virus outbreak. She also appealed to the public to avoid crowding.
“ We should be vigilant to prevent the virus spread in the next 2 to 3 weeks. We must avoid crowding. The number of invitees to functions at houses should be decreased, urged the health minister.
The state has been implementing COVID preventive measures effectively. The maximum number of people were tested to identify the patients. The health department took efforts to quarantine patients and provide medical care to them. The state has recorded the highest number of tests on Wednesday. A total of 1,96,02 samples were tested on Wednesday. But the test positivity rate was recorded at 11.2 percent even after testing the highest number of samples.
Meanwhile, the test positivity rate climbed to 13.53 percent on Thursday. A total of 1,63,098 samples were tested within 24 hours.
“We are focused to identify each COVID positive patient in the state. All departments are jointly working to counter the pandemic. The public is also supporting the government in the COVID prevention activities,” said the health minister.
She also pointed out that experts have appreciated Kerala’s efforts in preventing COVID-19.
“ At present, Delta variant is spreading in Kerala. We managed to keep the TPR at 10 percent in the second wave. Though the TPR climbed slightly, there is no need to worry about it, Veena George assured.
Over 43,000 cases were reported in May. As per the Serosurveillance report by the union government, only 42 per cent of people have antibodies, which means there are chances that over 50 per cent of people may get infected. So, Kerala is taking efforts to vaccinate the maximum number of people, she added.
At the same time, the health minister ruled out the allegations over denial of medical aid to COVID patients and oxygen shortage in the state.
