New Delhi: The Andhra Pradesh government has organized a vibrant handloom exhibition in the capital, celebrating the artistry of master weavers from the state. The event, themed around the upcoming festivals of Mahashivaratri and Holi, was inaugurated by honourable Sana Sathish Babu, Member of Parliament.
Held at Andhra Bhavan, the exhibition showcases a diverse collection of Andhra’s finest handloom products, including intricately woven sarees, dupattas, and menswear. The festival-themed decor, featuring colours inspired by Holi and sacred motifs associated with Mahashivaratri, adds to the cultural ambiance of the event.
During the inaugural ceremony, MP Sana Sathish Babu interacted with the master weavers and highlighted the significance of Andhra Pradesh’s weaving traditions and their connection to Indian festivals. “Andhra is home to some of the finest handloom artisans in the country. This exhibition beautifully blends tradition with festivity, allowing Delhiites to experience the richness of our textiles during this auspicious season,” he said.
The exhibition features iconic weaves such as Uppada, Venkatagiri, Mangalagiri cotton, Peddapuram shirting, pen Kalamkari and drawing significant attention from fashion enthusiasts, designers, and textile lovers. Visitors can explore a range of handcrafted products, with many designs reflecting the festive spirit through vibrant hues and intricate patterns.
With government initiatives supporting the handloom sector, exhibitions like this play a crucial role in sustaining traditional art forms and providing direct market access to artisans. The event is expected to attract a large footfall over the coming days, reinforcing the significance of handloom in India’s cultural and economic landscape.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until 18 february offering a chance to celebrate and support the timeless artistry of Andhra’s master weavers while embracing the festive joy of Mahashivaratri and Holi.
