BJP leader Shobha Surendran said that she will not be contesting the assembly elections. She said that she has informed this to the party leadership. She said this while talking to the media from the protest venue in front of the secretariat. She also said that the strike was not for any political purpose.
There is no relevance in talks held related to the constituencies to be contested. I had informed the state and central leadership months back that I will not be contesting. I am responding after reports came in that I am protesting here for a seat. The party will get a thumping victory in the polls and I will be active in electioneering without asking any seats, she said.
It was circulated that she would be fielded in any of the ‘A class’ constituencies. She started a 48-hour long hunger strike expressing solidarity with the PSC rank holders staging protests in front of the secretariat. It was propagated in the social media that this was a political move and the strike is not without the permission of the party. Such campaigns pointed that the party leaders did not reach out to the protesters.
In the meanwhile, senior leader of the party P P Mukundan came forward alleging that the BJP state leadership failed in solving the issues with Shobha Surendran.
