Islamic terror operatives’ footprints have been found in the violence-hit Manipur, where amid ethnic clashes between the Meitei people, a majority that lives in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo tribal community from the surrounding hills, Muslim individuals from neighbouring Assam tried to add fuel by resorting to blasts.
This has been revealed following investigation by the anti-terror federal probe agency NIA into the case of a bomb blast in a Scorpio vehicle on June 21 this year in Kwakta area in Manipur’s Bishnupur district and arrest of a couple Muslim men.
On Thursday the NIA said it had arrested Md Islauddin Khan in close coordination with Manipur Police. Earlier on October 16 the NIA arrested Md Noor Hussain following an intelligence-based joint operation with the Assam Police from Silchar, in Cachar district, in connection with the blast.
The NIA said the case was initially registered by Manipur Police on June 21 and later re-registered by the NIA on June 23 at Imphal.
The NIA Investigations in the case revealed the involvement of Islauddin in the bomb blast that took place on June 21 in an IED-laden Scorpio vehicle parked over a bridge located in the area of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta along Tiddim road in Bishnupur district of Manipur. Three persons were injured and the bridge, alongwith nearby houses, was damaged as a result of the bomb blast.
After his arrest, Islauddin Khan was produced before the jurisdictional Court at Imphal whereupon the court remanded the accused to the NIA custody for seven days.
