Voting in Chhattisgarh to take place on November 7, 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Mizoram on November 7, as Rajasthan and Telangana to go to polls on November 23 and 30 respectively
The Election Commission of India today announced the schedule for holding assembly elections in five poll bound states- Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Telangana beginning November 7, as the counting for all will take place on December 3.
According to the announcement made today by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar voting will take place in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram on November 7. But Chhattisgarh will go to the polls in two phases, as the voting for the second phase will take place on November 17 along with a single phase for Madhya Pradesh.
Rajasthan and Telangana will go to polls on November 23 and 30 respectively. Counting for all states will take place on December 3.
Before announcing the schedule, the ECI on Friday had told poll observers to be visible, accessible, neutral and ethical in their functioning. CEC Kumar directed them to ensure a level-playing field by working in a coordinated manner to ensure free, fair and inducement-free polls.
He added that the ECI was “increasingly concentrating on having a humane face, by facilitating and including persons with disabilities, senior citizens who are 80 years or above and particularly vulnerable tribal groups with the help of special provisions such as home voting and accessible polling stations.”
The BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh will elect MLAs from 230 constituencies while the Congress-governed Rajasthan assembly comprises 200 seats. In Telangana, the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will face off against BJP and the Congress over 119 Assembly seats. In the 90-seat Chhattisgarh assembly, ruling Congress is all set to fight the BJP while both the parties will attempt to get a foothold in the 40-seat Assembly of Mizoram, currently led by the Mizo National Front.
