The recent Pulwama Terrorist attack has brought out the best in some people and the worst in others. Sample this tweet by Congress President Rahul Gandhi … https://twitter.com/RahulGandhi/status/1098486225164533760
“The brave are martyred. Their families struggle.40 Jawans give their lives but are denied the status of “Shaheed”. While this man has never given & only taken. He’s gifted 30,000Cr of their money & will live happily ever after. Welcome to Modi’s NEW INDIA.” The reference given was of Anil Ambani being asked to pay a fine or face jail in the Ericsson Case. Where was the connection, one may ask?
Now take a look at this article in “The Caravan” magazine …
What kind of mentality is it to check out the caste/religion of the martyrs or those who are grieving? Has the Caravan magazine or the writer ever done research on the castes/religions of all the martyrs till today, or was it only reserved for this terrorist attack, just because it suited their agenda?
And then in an attempt to blame the present leadership and their earlier poll partner in Kashmir, Dr. Subramaniam Swamy and Major Gaurav Arya tweeted this …
Even Maj Gen G D Bakshi endorsed this on T.V. People went berserk on Whatsapp groups and on Twitter sharing this wrong information. Of course, they deleted their tweets subsequently when it pointed out by many other military personnel that there was a factual error in the information. But by this time doubts had already been created in the already distraught people of Bharat.
As if all this was not enough, we had a spate of fake information of Kashmiris being beaten up, molested, being compared to dogs and more. No great skills are required for guessing who in Bharat wanted to change the narrative to make the Kashmiris appear to be the victims.
Then we had a very ‘famous’ journalist, Barkha Dutt, who wanted to garner all the attention to herself by posting a pornographic picture on Twitter. She too claimed victimhood and till today claims that she is being harassed by men who are threatening her with rape. I can understand that she wants to be counted as one of the brave women who expose their tormentors. But there is a small problem with this … The day she put out the pornographic picture was the day when the trial of Kulbushan Jadhav was going on in the International Court of Justice. It is very unfortunate that the Twitterati decided to trend her post instead of the proceedings in the ICJ. This just goes to show how easily we are misled by just one narrative. To all those who are curious to know as why she was targeted – apparently it was because she had put out her phone number to reach out to those Kashmiris who had been ‘targeted’ by Nationalists.
The horrible venom spewed by so many famous people made the CRPF put out this statement: “Our men did not lay down their lives so that their deaths could become the cause of communal hatred.”
Let’s have a minute’s silence to mourn the death of humanity, empathy, adherence to truth and principles in some of our ‘famous’ personalities. May we never follow their footsteps.
