KPCC president K Sudhakaran on Saturday made controversial statements in the Dheeraj Rajendran murder and justified the Youth Congress workers who were allegedly present in the college. Refusing to condemn the murder, Sudhakaran said he is not sure if it was Nikhil Paily who stabbed Dheeraj. “Congress will provide legal assistance to the accused,” he said.
“Any being would react when attacked. That is what happened in Idukki,” Sudhakaran said.
“Family of Dheeraj are inclined to Congress. They will never deny that. We even tried to contact the family after the incident. I want to personally go there but the family would have to suffer the consequences of my visit,” he added.
Sudhakaran also alleged that CPM disregarded the desire of the family to bury the body his body in the yard of their house. Instead, CPM bought land to erupt a tomb under his name and to celebrate his martyrdom, he added.
“There were many clashes in Idukki Engineering College in connection to the elections. It was in this context that the Youth Congress members ensured the protection of the KSU workers. But, CPM used force to disperse the workers and Congress zonal president was hospitalised as a result,” he said.
“Around 40 SFI-DYFI members stationed outside the college and attacked the Youth Congress leaders during the day of the incident. Nikhil Paily was also in the group. It was during this skirmish that Dheeraj was stabbed. The SFI members said that they only saw Dheeraj falling. They did not see him getting stabbed,” he added.
Police had intervened several times to stop SFI members. They refused to take Dheeraj to the hospital when asked. Even the police were unable to control SFI members and were tired of them, he added.
