Protesting AMU students resorts to sloganeering such as “We stand for Palestine, AMU stands for Palestine”, countering this Bajrang Dal workers protest, burns the effigy of Hamas terrorists.
At a time when strong condemnation has been pouring in against the brutal attack by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians with gory videos of savagery flooded on social media and the government of India offering unconditional support to Israel in this hour of crisis, a group of students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) came out in support for Palestine cause.
Several students of the University were seen coming out on the campus streets as part of demonstration in support of Palestine during late Sunday night. The protestors were seen and heard shouting slogans such as “We stand for Palestine AMU stands for Palestine”.
However, their move was countered by Bajrang Dal workers, who also protested against the attack on Israel and burnt the effigy of Hamas terrorists.
It is also to be noted that the support to Palestine from the AMU students came days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in support of Israel, which was also acknowledged by the Zionist country. AMU students’ act of demonstration in support of Hamas has led to a controversy.
According to the demonstrating students Israel is responsible for alleged atrocities on Palestine. They are of the opinion that when Ukraine was attacked, the world which came out in support of Ukraine did not support the Palestine cause.
Student leader Naved Chaudhary is reported to have said, “Palestine has been subjected to oppression. This must stop and AMU students have always raised their voice against atrocities whenever they have taken place in any corner of the world. We condemn the Israeli attack on Palestine.”
The AMU students also took out a protest march from Dak Point to Baba Syed. Bajrang Dal activists who took exception to AMU students’ support for Palestine cause, burnt the effigy of Hamas terrorists. The organisation’s workers burnt the effigy of Hamas at Dubey Padav Tiraha of Gandhi Park police station area of Aligarh city.
During this, people associated with Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organisations also raised slogans like “Down with Palestine, down with Hamas”. Bajrang Dal coordinator Gaurav Sharma is reported to have said, “5000 rockets were fired at Israel by the terrorist organisation Hamas. This was a blatant and cruel act of jihad which must be unequivocally condemned. The barbaric terrorists also stripped a woman, paraded her naked and killed her.”
