Kesari, a film based on the battle of Saragarhi, starring Akshay Kumar is gearing up for release in March this year. The film showcases the untold story of valour and bravery by 21 Sikh soldiers who faced 10,000 Muslim Pashtuns who attacked the last post of Saragarhi in today’s North West Frontier Province (now in Pakistan) in 1897. Dharma Productions has released the trailer which shows a glimpse of what is in store in the film. After Uri and Manikarnika (based on the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi, the film offers to give viewers a heady mix of patriotism. Apart from Akshay, the film also stars Parineeti Chopra in a crucial role.
According to producers, Kesari, directed by Anurag Singh will hit the theatres on March 21, 2019. The film deals with the story of the 21 Sikh soldiers of the 36th Sikh Regiment of Bengal Infantry (now the 4th Sikh Regiment in the Indian Army), who woke up on September 12, 1897, to find themselves surrounded by 10,000 Pashtuns. Akshay portrays Havaldar Ishar Singh who led the offensive that lasted seven hours. Col John Kendall, of the British army, says, “Despite being hugely outnumbered, the soldiers did not panic and inflicted the maximum damage upon the enemy with their limited ammunition.”
