Baidu Inc. has announced plans to introduce its artificial intelligence chatbot Ernie to its search services starting in March.
The company, which specializes in search engine and autonomous driving technology, aims to create an equivalent of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot.
Ernie will be integrated across all of Baidu’s operations, including search, cloud services, smart car operating systems, and smart speakers.
The company’s CEO, Robin Li, said in an internal memo that AI technology has reached a tipping point, and Baidu stands at the forefront of China’s AI market.
Baidu’s revenues for Q4 2021 were about level with the same period of the previous year, and most of its revenue comes from online marketing services.
Following a regulatory crackdown and economic slowdown due to COVID-19, Baidu and other companies are expected to invest more as China looks to revive the economy through the technology industry.
