Former Union Health Minister JP Nadda was selected as the BJP’s Working President on Monday. However, current President Amit Shah who is also the Home Minister, will continue to retain both posts.
While announcing the decision, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Shah had expressed his desire to step down as it would be difficult to do justice to both positions. However, it was later decided that Shah remains the party chief, but the burden will be shared with Nadda.
After assuming the charge as Home Minister “Amit Shah Ji himself said the responsibility of party president should be given to someone else,” Rajnath Singh said.
Congratulating Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “Shri @JPNadda is a diligent Karyakarta of the Party, who has risen through the ranks due to his hardwork and organisational skills. Humble and affable, he is widely respected across the BJP family. Congratulations to him on becoming the Working President of the Party.”
Nadda, a former ABVP leader, has good rapport with top RSS leaders and the BJP leadership. The low-profile leader from Himachal Pradesh is popular among workers as well.
