An inactive lifestyle is a leading cause of weight gain and various health issues. Due to busy work schedules or other obligations, people often do not find time to engage in physical exercise.

Fortunately, there are several simple and easy activities one can engage in to stay fit and healthy, even without a strenuous fitness routine. Studies show that walking can help burn fat and promote heart health by strengthening muscles and bones, regulating blood pressure, and boosting circulation. Walking for an hour every day can help burn calories and aid in weight loss. Following some basic guidelines can also help to maximize fat-burning potential while walking.

Regular short walks

For example, taking short walks regularly after meals instead of lengthy strolls can be more beneficial for weight loss. Breaking up an hour-long walk into several short walks throughout the day can also be effective in maintaining health, regulating blood pressure, and reducing blood sugar levels.

Increasing the number

Increasing the number of steps taken daily can also be helpful in achieving weight loss goals. Experts recommend aiming for at least 10,000 steps per day, with the potential to increase this number for greater calorie burning. However, it is important to monitor energy levels and avoid overexertion while trying to increase step count.

Boosting walking speed

Boosting walking speed can also lead to more effective exercise and greater calorie burning. According to research, increasing speed during a walk results in burning more calories, and a group of runners burned more calories than a group of walkers.

Walking uphill

Walking uphill or increasing the inclination on a treadmill can also be an effective way to burn more calories and lose weight. Uphill walking requires more effort, resulting in greater calorie loss.

Power walks

Finally, power walks can be done daily as a high-intensity exercise. Starting with a warm-up walk of 5-10 minutes, walking faster for 15-20 seconds before returning to a regular pace can help burn more calories and aid in weight loss.
