The CPI(M)-led government has sacked Asha Lawrence, the daughter of top CPI(M) leader MM Lawrence, after her teenaged son took part in a protest staged by state BJP chief Advocate PS Sreedharan Pillai to protest against the brutal crackdown of devotees in Sabarimala.
Asha was employed in SIDCO, a state government undertaking, on a temporary basis. Her son Milan Lawrence’s visit had caused a major embarrassment to the state government, which was pursuing strong-arm tactics against Sabarimala devotees.
Teenaged Milan’s cryptic statement on the government’s strong-arm tactics was a point of discussion in the state. When asked by reporters about his grandfather’s politics, the boy said, “My grandfather has his politics and I am doing what my conscience dictates. He is the only Marxist in our family and we are free to do what we believe in.” Milan also criticized the government for its approach in Sabarimala.
Lawrence, a former MP, said he was not at all happy with his grandson taking part in a BJP function. He said he was not consulted before going to the function.
