Unprecedented enthusiasm was witnessed across Maharashtra yesterday on the occasion of birth anniversary of Great Maratha warrior king Shivaji Maharaj. In Mumbai, Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and garlanded his statue at Shivaji Park in the morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Koshyari said that Shivaji Maharaj and his life is a timeless inspiration for every generation. He said, parents, teachers, school-going children and youngsters should learn values like patriotism, commitment, unity and fighting spirit from Shivaji Maharaj. Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar was also present on the occasion.
In various districts mainly in Sarata, Sangli, Nanded, Latur, Raigaid and Pune spectacular programs to mark the Shivjanmotsav or Shivaji Maharaj birth ceremony were held since midnight at the historic forts of Shivaji Maharaj. A large number of people attended the ceremony. Women and children also joined these celebrations in large numbers.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray expressed his government’s resolve to carry forward the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Thackeray visited the Shivneri Fort in Junnar tehsil of Pune district to pay tributes to Shivaji Maharaj on his birth anniversary and announced Rs 23 crore assistance for the development of the fort.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and others also attended the birth anniversary function of Shivaji Maharaj at Shivneri.
