Today, there are many couples in our society who are happily choosing to not become parents ever in their life. The reason for opting this different route varies from couple to couple but this social trend is witnessing an upward growth. Much like choosing to have children, the decision to be childfree by choice is a personal one. It’s a life choice that seems to invite well-meaning but often unsolicited and insensitive opinions and comments from family members to colleagues and beyond. Women’s bodies are always up for discussion, and particularly upon turning 30 our reproductive rights seem to be heavily criticized and analysed either way.
Many couples are not willing to give up their present lifestyle and the ‘freedom’ of being not responsible for the well-being of the third member of their family. While some women doesn’t like to go through long 9 months of their body change. And many couples says that kids are expensive, raising them needs a lots of money. Couples thinks that instead of having long time responsibility, it’s better to have a pet who gives all the love and affection as much as kids. And this world is already overpopulated with humans and humans are destroying nature for his greed.
Children become resigned to not having the future they should have had. Not just because the world will have gone completely to shit by then and there won’t be much of anything left, but because society is going to talk constantly about how the world used to be. These children when they grow up, they choose childfree life instead of bringing someone into this world full of sufferings.
The reasons for going child-free are not limited to financial constraints, high level of responsibility or lack of family support. Couples are scandalised with the crime rates in the society so they feel it’s not safe for kids to grow in this environment and it’d be stressful for a parent too. Also, the pollutions levels are going crazy. And there is always a question whether we would be able to afford the child’s expenses or not.
