Delhi: Putting an end to the uncertainty regarding Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency the AICC today confirmed that Rahul Gandhi will be their candidate from the constituency. The decision was announced by AK Antony in a press conference held at the AICC headquarters in Delhi earlier this morning.
“Wayanad is the most appropriate constituency for Rahul to contest and the decision will reflect the results in entire south India,” Antony said adding that this has made the party president contest from the constituency outside Amethi. The announcement was made after a crucial consultation in Delhi this morning.
“This is a message to the southern states that they are deeply valued and respected. Congress President Rahul Gandhi has said that he will represent Amethi but will also represent southern states as they are an important part of India’s way of life,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said. To a question whether Rahul Gandhi is not confident in Amethi, Mr Surjewala responded that the comment was ‘immature and childish’.
While the news brings cheers in the UDF camp in Kerala where amidst the favourable conditions the Congress is still struggling to create an impact upon the people, the LDF leadership has gone panic. While affirming that the main goal of CPIM is to defeat the BJP, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said that the party state leadership should decide whether to go to campaign against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad.
