The Southwest monsoon arrived in India on Monday and Kerala witnessed heavy downpour over several regions in the state, said the India Meteorological Department.
A yellow alert has been declared in 9 districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kannur.
According to IMD, Kerala would receive heavy rains until Thursday.
The IMD added that the depression formed in the Arabian sea will intensify into a cyclone by Tuesday afternoon. A depression has formed around 370 kilometres away from the coast of Goa. The depression may turn into cyclone and make landfall between Maharashtra and Gujarat by Wednesday.
