Shashi Tharoor MP has raised voice against the approval given for the emergency use of Covaxin. Tharoor stated that approving the use of the vaccine without completion of the third phase trial could lead to potential dangers and demanded that the vaccine should not be used.
“The Covaxin has not yet had Phase 3 trials. Approval was premature and could be dangerous. The Union Health Minister should please clarify. Its use should be avoided till full trials are over. India can start with the AstraZeneca vaccine in the meantime” Tharoor tweeted.
Covaxin, which was developed by Bharat Biotech with the cooperation of ICMR, has completed the second phase trials. It was found out that the vaccine is 70 percent efficient in the first phase trial.
