The Saha Sarkaryavah of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Manmohan Vaidya said his organisation’s base is steadily expanding and is active in 90 per cent of the blocks across the nation. He was speaking on the sidelines of Akhil Bhartiya Karyakari Mandal at Bhubhaneswar.
According to Vaidya, at present the number of daily shakhas, the fundamental unit of the Sangh, stood at 57,411. Besides, there are 18,923 weekly and monthly milans held across the length and breadth of the country. He says this works out to be more than 50 per cent growth since 2010.
Although many observers attribute the rise in numbers to the advent of the BJP government at the centre, RSS leaders dismiss it saying that the organisation had prepared a plan in the year 2009 to expand the Sangh base. After 2010, there has been a total increase of 19,584 shakhas, he added. In fact, from 2010 to 2014 there was an increase of about 6,000 shakhas. And the trend continues, he added. Students and youth are running 60 per cent of all shakhas of RSS. This partially explains the rise of vote-share for BJP among the first-time voters.
