Due to rising numbers of religious conversions in the name of ‘Love Jihad’, the Yogi government is mulling to promulgate an ordinance against religious conversions in the state.
“It’s in the process and Acts and laws of other states are being studied and discussed before UP has its own law against religious conversion,” confirmed a senior officer of the state’s law department.
Eight states in the country have enacted anti-conversion laws- Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. The anti-conversion law seeks to prevent any person from converting or attempting to convert, either directly or otherwise another person through forcible or fraudulent means.
