The Bureau of Police Research and Development under the Ministry of Home Affairs has listed AltNews, alleged fact-checking website, for fast-checking assistance, much to the chagrin of BJP supporters and independent journalists. This was revealed by the founder of the pro-Left website Pratik Sinha in a tweet. “As an organisation, we are happy to offer any help that could show down the flow of misinformation,” Sinha stated.
Union Home Ministry is listing Alt News as a credible source for its officers to use in investigating fake news.

“This is shocking. How can the Home Ministry under Amit Shah rope in an ultra-Left, anti-BJP, anti-Hindu website for this job? The whole team of AltNews is a bunch of liars and propagandists,” said Shiva Kumar, a BJP supporter.
In response to Sinha’s tweet, columnist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra tweeted: “Lol! Hindus get what they deserve”.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the BPRD has removed AltNews from the list of resource agencies. Indus Scrolls’s efforts to contact BPRD chief failed as his phone number was not reachable.
