While the entire state is against the Kerala government with the findings of central investigation agencies, Pinarayi Vijayan led CPI(M) is using police force to suppress the ongoing protests. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with Yuva Morcha, Mahila Yuva Morcha and ABVP are conducting state-wide protests seeking the resignation of KT Jaleel who was recently interrogated by enforcement directorate.
The matter, which pertains to the smuggling of gold in the state through diplomatic channels, had come to light after 30 kg gold worth Rs 14.82 crores, smuggled in a consignment camouflaged as diplomatic baggage, was busted by the Customs in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5. Following the incident, BJP workers staged a protest march to Kerala secretariat demanding the resignation of higher education minister KT Jaleel, who were brutally beaten up the police force. Several workers were injuring in the police outrage.
ABVP members on Sunday marched to the Kozhikode Commissioner’s office demanding the resignation of higher education minister KT Jaleel. Eight people were injured in the lathi charge. The police used water canon to disperse the ABVP members and resorted to lathi charge who crossed the barricade. Police arrested ABVP state working committee member KB Rajeesh, district president Amal Manoj, district secretary Shyam Shankar and Praveen NP.
Mahila Morcha too protested demanding the resignation of Minister KT Jaleel. Mahila Morcha activists who marched towards the secretariat were also handled by the police force.
Though protests are intensifying across the state demanding Jalil’s resignation the government is still protecting the ministers involved in the case. Protesters say the agitation will continue until Minister KT Jalil resigns.
