A horrifying lynching incident took place on April 17 where a large mob of 110 people killed two saints and their driver.
Two Sadhus, 70-year-old Kalpavrishka Giri Maharaj and 35-year-old Sushil Giri Maharaj along with their driver 30-year-old Nilesh Telgade associated with the Juna Akhara were on their way from Mumbai to Gujarat to give Samadhi to another Sadhu.
The villagers of Gadakchinchale thought them to be theives and started attacking them, beating them to death.
Police have detained 101 people involved in the killing and the Maharashtra government has ordered a high level inquiry into the barbaric act. According to reports, 9 juveniles have also been arrested by the police.
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray reacting to the probe ordered said, “The Palghar incident has been acted upon. The police have arrested all those accused who attacked the two sadhus, one driver and the police personnel on the day of the crime itself.
