Repeating its stance regarding NRIs, the central government today said that they cannot be brought back immediately. The response came as the High Court sought a report from the Centre regarding the matter of taking expats home.
Following this, the High Court asked the central government to explain the actions taken in each country in connection with the issue.
Meanwhile, the High Court also stated that if the expats are brought back in this situation, they cannot be quarantined at their houses. The HC asked the state government what precautions have been taken to receive the NRIs. The pleas will be considered again on April 24.
The Supreme Court also had said that it cannot intervene in the matter of repatriation of NRIs. While considering a petition in connection with the issue, the Supreme Court said that the matter should be handled as per the guidelines issued by the Centre.
