NIA court on Tuesday (August 11) rejected the bail application of gold smuggle accused Swapna Suresh. The court felt that UAPA would be applicable in view of the need of international inquiry. And, further investigations are required. The court maintained that gold smuggling is an anti-national activity and prime facie Swapa appears to be guilty. Evidences are strong. There are evidences to establish that gold was smuggled through diplomatic baggage several times. Swapna has links with several cases of smuggling of gold operated in the past by Ramees through diplomatic baggage. The court observed, Swapna had admitted that gold smuggling demolishes the country’s financial stability. She knew it before she entered this activity.
Rejecting the bail application, the court said that NIA should go ahead with further enquiries with respect to the links of the accused with the terror activities. The court brushed aside Swapna’s prayer that the case is politically motivated. NIA had submitted a copy of the letter sent by the Chief Minister to the Prime Minister proposing the NIA probe. NIA has unearthed Swapna’s acquaintance with the CM and CMO.
Meanwhile, NIA team has reached Dubai for further probe. The team is expected to quiz the Consulate officials and interrogate Faisal Fareed, a major accused in the case. He is in the custody of Dubai police at the moment.
