A request has been sent to ICMR for emergency approval of a test kit developed by Mysore university that claims to give results within 10 minutes.
The team consisting of S Chandra Nayak, coordinator, and CD Mohan, Assistant Professor, Department of Studies in Molecular Biology have developed a chip and barcode based kit under the guidance of Rangappa and patients can use their sputum, saliva or nasal secretion for test on the testing kit to get the results.
“A barcode strip is linked to an app. As soon as the barcode is scanned, the health status of the patients (whether tested positive or negative) is updated in the server thereby enabling the governing agencies to monitor the cases immediately. The recent technologies in molecular biology, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence were used in the development of the kit.” the press release stated.
Rangappa was flanked by current VC G Hemanth Kumar and other team members while unveiling the kit in University campus yesterday.
Then former VC told Asianet Newsable that infrastructure support was given by Lorven Biologics Private Limited and scientific inputs was shared by University Of Mysore to build this latest technology in detecting Covid. “To make this kit affordable we want this to be priced about Rs 100 and as a sample, 1000 kits were manufactured and are awaiting Icarus nod. ” Rangappa said and added further that in RT-PCR only 60% accuracy is shown whereas under the new technology, 90% accuracy was shown.
