73 long years have passed after partition that divided own brothers and sisters into two countries, perhaps two continents, where an ocean of hatred still separate people of both countries. Though somehow the narrow political borders have separated the countries there are still an old-generation that still cherishes this brotherhood. The story published on an online portal named Sikh 24 is one that would perhaps melt even the hardest rocks.
As per the website, during India-Pakistan partition in 1947, a Hindu shopkeeper who owned a business in Loralai, Balochistan (Pakistan) was forced to leave the rented shop. While leaving the place with a heavy heart, he locked his shop and asked the owner to wait for his return to open the shop again. The owner who shared a warm relationship with the tenant happily agreed and promised that nobody will open it until he returns.
Seasons changed, years passed – but the man who promised to come back never returned. Time has changed the whole world around and the owner of the shop too disappeared behind the curtain of time, however, even after 73 years, the family of the owner is still waiting for the man to return to open his room again.
They have not opened the room yet, but somehow they believe, perhaps someday the man or his successor would come back and open it again to fulfil the promise. He may not come back, yet it is about a promise and promises are to be fulfilled!
