While the national investigation agencies are continuing its probe on the controversial gold smuggling case, statistics reveal shocking details of gold captured in various Kerala airports. As per records, 11,267 kg of gold was smuggled through airports in the last five years.
The data shows 2452 kg of gold was seized 2015-16, 921 kg in 2016-17, 2946 kg in 2017-18, 2018-19, 2829 kg in 2019-20 and 123 kg from 2020 to date. The Central Government revealed the details in a written reply to a question raised by Anto Antony, NK Premachandran and Dean Kuriakose from Kerala.
The Central Government had earlier said that the details of the investigation into the gold smuggling case can’t be revealed now as it would affect the ongoing investigations. The centre also indicated that an accused involved in gold smuggling has a high-level connection.
A total of 16 people have been arrested in connection with the case.
