A Kerala court sentenced mother of the child in an incident of denying breast milk to a newborn baby. As per reports, the mother denied milk considering the advice of a clergyman who insisted to give milk only after 5 times prayer as per Islamic faith.
The shocking incident took place on November 2, 2016. The mother refused to breastfeed the baby on the clergyman’s instructions not to breastfeed the baby until 5 times prayers are over. Following a complaint from a nurse, the Child Protection Force directed to file a case against the parents and clergyman.
The mother who is the first accused in the case, Hafsat, was convicted by the Thamarassery Judicial First Class Court (II) for a fine of Rs 1,000 and remanded in custody till the end of the trial. She was convicted under sections 75 and 87 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
Meanwhile, the court acquitted the other accused in the case, the clergyman and the woman’s husband.
