Already under scanner in the controversial gold smuggling racket, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was in for another shock on Wednesday when the agreement between a charitable organisation in the UAE and Life Mission — the flagship project of the Vijayan government, surfaced in the media.
As pressure mounts on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for corruption in the housing project, the CM has summoned the files related to Life Mission. The decision is apparently after the decision of Enforcement Directorate to quiz Life Mission CEO UV Jose IAS who signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The files in the department of law and the department of local self-government were summoned. Though the Life Mission is under control of the chief minister, the files are handled by the local-self government department due to lack of a secretariat system for Life Mission, says a media report.
The law department examined the draft agreement. Based on this, the CM summoned the files in both departments. The agreement with Red Crescent was signed in connection with the Life Mission project in Wadakkanchery. It was Life Mission CEO U V Jose who signed the agreement prepared by the Red Crescent.
Allegations were raised as the agreement prepared by Red Crescent was signed hastily without following the procedures. Minister for local self-government A C Moideen also has summoned for the files.
