A controversy has erupted after a murder convict on parole attended the wedding of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena and DYFI leader Mohmmad Riyas held at the official residence of the Chief Minister in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday (June 15).
The cold-blooded murderer, Muhammad Hashim, had hacked to death an RSS activist Suresh Babu. According to BJP leader Sandeep G Varier, Hashim was the first accused in the murder case. The court after trial had sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Only very close relatives were invited for the marriage which was held in the main hall of the CM’s official residence, Cliff House. “How come CM invite a murder convict for his daughter’s wedding in the official residence? Thanks to Covid protocols, only close relatives were invited. Even the groom’s father and mother could not take part,” said Sandeep Varier.
This is the second marriage for both the couple. Father of two, Riyas’s first marriage with a medical doctor ended in divorce in 2015. His first wife had levelled serious allegations of domestic violence against Riyas. Veena, who is also the mother of a child, had gone through a divorce in 2015.
Veena is the director of Exalogic Solutions Private Limited, a venture she started in 2015, which is based in Bengaluru.
Riyas, son of PM Abdulkhader, a retired IPS officer, had entered the field of politics during his school days. He was formerly the national joint secretary of DYFI and was appointed the President in February 2017.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Riyas had contested from the Kozhikode constituency as a CPM candidate, but lost to MK Raghavan of the Congress party by a slender margin of 838 votes.
