The discussions between the government and the governor to end the political war did not take place yesterday following the public criticism raised by the governor regarding the appointments of the vice chancellors of Kannur and Kalady universities.
The governor, who was not in Thiruvananthapuram for two weeks after the controversy, returned to the Raj Bhavan yesterday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who arrived in Thiruvananthapuram last night after completing a medical examination in Chennai, and the Governor were present at the unveiling of the PN Panicker statue, in which the President participated. No discussions took place between the two before or after the ceremony. There was no conversation between the two on stage. In the afternoon, the Chief Minister went to Ernakulam to attend the funeral of PT Thomas MLA.
Though there are indications that there will be moves at the CM level to resolve the dispute and persuade the governor, it is learned that even informal consultations have not taken place till yesterday. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will leave for Bangalore this evening. If the CM-Governor meeting does not take place today, it will take place only after his return on the 26th. Yesterday, President Ramnath Kovind stayed at the Raj Bhavan. The governor will be at Raj Bhavan till the evening on Friday. It is not certain whether the CM will meet him in the meantime. Although the Governor-Chief Minister meeting is likely to take place today, government and Raj Bhavan sources have not confirmed it. At the informal level, the mediation could take place in Delhi.
