The BJP unit in Kerala has emerged as the largest provider of relief in the state during the Covid-19 pandemic. BJP workers toiled day in and day out to bring succour to people affected by the lockdown. The focus of the BJP drive was the lowest strata of the society. The BJP workers, in some places, coordinated with Seva Bharati, which has been in the forefront of charity services, to serve the affected people. Even ideological rivals have praised the Seva Bharati for rendering yeoman service to the deserving people without any consideration of caste, creed or religion.
From the day lockdown announced to till May 21, BJP workers distributed 6,90,960 food packets to the needy. Besides, 19.23 lakh dry ration kits were supplied to lower income families. To prevent spread of the pandemic, BJP workers distributed 14.86 lakh masks to people across the state.
BJP works took part wholeheartedly in the promotion of PM Cares Fund and Arogyasethu Aap among people. About 1.50 lakh BJP workers contributed generously to PM Cares Fund.
Despite the lockdown constraints, the BJP workers have been working hard to provide all kinds of assistance to people in distress. State BJP President K Surendran’s intervention helped many stranded non-resident Keralites in other countries return Kerala. Unlike the Congress-led UDF whose leaders religiously hold daily press conferences and indulge in slugfest with the State government, the BJP has been providing constructive support to the administration for its initiatives against the pandemic. However, politically, the BJP exposed and defeated the government’s false claims, data fudging moves and PR overdrives.
