One thousand 35 fresh confirmed cases of novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 have been reported in the country in the last 24 hours taking the total number to 7447. Out of these, 642 patients have recovered and discharged from the hospitals, while 239 patients have died.
Briefing media in New Delhi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Lav Aggarwal said, India’s response to contain COVID-19 has been proactive and it has followed a graded approach. He said, in coordination with the states, the Centre is ensuring supply of PPE, N95 masks, testing kits and ventilators and dedicated COVID-19 hospitals are also being set up to provide proper treatment.
Mr Aggarwal informed that as of now 586 dedicated COVID-19 Hospitals have been set up with a capacity of more than 1 lakh isolation beds and around 11,500 isolation beds. He said, this figure is being augmented every day, based on evolving situation.
Mr Aggarwal also said, Ministry of AYUSH has prepared a set of guidelines on respiratory health and to boost the immunity. It has also asked the District Magistrates to incorporate this in district-level contingency plan as well. He said, the Government’s goal is to implement containment policy, containment action plan, contact tracing and clinical management of COVID-19 patients in proper manner, as per process, in coordination with states.
As per the analysis done on the rate of growth of cases, Mr Aggarwal said that the lockdown and containment measures are important to fight COVID-19 and if we had not taken any measures, we might have had 2 lakh cases at this time.
