It seems like people in Kerala has just ignored the appeal of Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who is still questioned for his mismanagement of funds collected during the flood season, to donate to CM’s Disaster Relief Fund in the wake of Coronavirus.
In a major backlash to the state government, the coronavirus fund, a part of Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund has received only Rs 141 crore so far. This particular sum of money was collected in 20 days. The donors for the same are mostly corporates.
Rs 12.12 crores were received via online from the public. The officials claim that they have already spent Rs 350 crore to tackle the crisis. The financial support received after March 27 are being considered as corona fund.
As compared to the donations to CM’s fund during the flood crisis last year, the government has acquired a much lesser financial support for coronavirus crisis. A large amount of donations from abroad were also flowing into CMRDF last time.
However, it is being deemed that the controversy over flood fund scam by CPM and other factors has led to people being reluctant to contribute at the need of the hour.
